"The advantageous industrial supply chain of offshore wind generation is spread all over the county. We must go deep into the industrial supply chain, find more opportunities and explore greater space for progress if we want to intensify and optimize the offshore wind generation product." said by Dr. Zhen Huang, a founder of Jiangsu NeuPower Co, Ltd. He was on a business trip when contacted by phone on July 5. He said that "it's very common to travel around the country and there's very little spare time for me".


Dr. Zhen Huang and his team settled in Tongzhou district, Nantong with the project of "product module design and manufacturing of larger-scale high-temperature superconducting wind turbine generator" on May 30 last year. This project focusing on solving the problem of offshore wind power drivetrain. And relying on self-develop applied high-temperature superconducting technology, NeuPower team develop high-temperature superconducting magnet products which related technical tested by downstream have reached the international first-class level. And more than 10 authorized invention patents belong to it.

There are many opportunities for the project to be located in Tongzhou district, Nantong. "I'm form Suzhou. Two reasons make me choose Tongzhou. The first is Nantong has a geographical advantage for that one of the five existing offshore wind power bases in China is located in the Yangtze River Delta. Another is Nantong is very close to Suzhou means it’s close to my family." After manufacturing site landing in Tongzhou, Dr. Zhen Huang deeply felt the city's preference for talents: guide company to actively apply for talent projects such as "510 Talents Plan", "Jianghai Talents", etc. to help company get more policy supports; actively help coordinate enterprise land, workshop construction, etc., help company early investment and early production, etc." Our team has obtained three years of rent-free factory of 1,000 m2 and more than 3 million RMB of government project funding." Dr. Zhen Huang gratefully said.


"Wind solar and storage is currently a relatively stable,controllable and safe energy source,of which wind power is the most effective means to achieve carbon neutrality in China. Compared with onshore wind power, our country's offshore wind power resources are more abundant, especially the deep sea contains 80% of the earth's wind energy resources, and has the advantages of occupying less land, high power generation efficiency, suitable for large-scale development, etc. Therefore, the market we are optimistic about now and the future trend must be offshore wind power, especially deep sea wind power, but the difficulties are also obvious." Dr. Zhen Huang introduced. He also mentioned that he has studied high-temperature superconducting generator for more than 12 years, the most important thing in the future development of offshore wind power and the key to their research are how to ensure stable, highly reliable power generation for a single device in the full life cycle of 25 years, while reducing the cost of electricity is. "The research of offshore wind generation is more about making progress from scratch and the 0 to 1 progression. Our team always wade across the stream by feeling the way and make progress step by step. I still remember the smile on the faces of the team members when they made a new breakthrough in the impregnation process of high-temperature superconducting coils,and they then calmly moved on to the next study. Every new technology breakthrough takes at least 2 years' experience, and even 4 to 5 years. And what we lack most is time, every minute and every second cannot be wasted.”


Dr. Zhen Huang's time has been given to offshore wind power research, and he owes a lot to his family. "My parents live in Suzhou,my wife is in Shanghai. Although Nantong is very close to Suzhou, but in the past five years, I have hardly had time to visit my parents. Nevertheless, they are very supportive of my career.”


"At present, the manufacturing factory of Tongzhou is under construction and renovation, and it is expected to be put into use in September this year. Almost in the second half of this years,the equipment of pilot production line can be fully entered and put into use." For the future,Dr. Zhen Huang said that he hopes that companies in the field of offshore wind power will first base themselves on the domestic market and then enter the overseas market. Because those workings in wind power filed share a common goal: to address the challenge of global warming and protect our planet.
